Learning & Technology Resources (LTR) provides academic and instructional resources in support of teaching excellence and innovative learning for faculty and staff.
We rely upon qualified and dedicated team members to provide access to and assistance with materials from various instructional media and encourages the critical evaluation and assessment of the resources. Academic Success Center (Tutoring Support)
The Academic Success Center (ASC) at NOVA’s Alexandria Campus takes great pride in helping our students enhance their learning at all levels. ASC provides free peer tutoring services to all credit-seeking NOVA students.
Tutoring services are generally available for, but not limited to Accounting, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Math, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, World Languages and more. Students can expect individualized assistance from our exceptional tutors.

Technology Innovation in Learning & Teaching (Faculty & Staff Support)
The Technology Innovation in Learning & Teaching (TILT) unit supports the academic mission of NOVA by helping faculty and staff find innovative ways to use technology to achieve their teaching goals. TILT staff support educational technologies that can contribute to NOVA’s academic excellence by increasing student engagement with course materials, supporting active learning strategies, better matching teaching and learning styles, fostering communication and collaboration, streamlining course administration, and developing students’ skills for future learning and work. TILT staff systematically monitor and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of educational technologies on the teaching and learning experiences of faculty and students and shares the findings with the campus community.
Our services include individual and group training for faculty, staff and structured group sessions for students, assistance with graphic design and publications. We assist faculty and staff with creating and updating their own websites. We offer students, faculty and staff equipment for check-out including mobile devices such as iPad Carts (include 25-30 iPads) for classes and Clickers

The Alexandria Campus Library strives to provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff and the community. Our goals are to provide a well-balanced collection of materials in print and electronic formats, including a robust Course Reserves collection with free access to textbooks and other course materials. Faculty librarians provide research assistance to students and collaborate with faculty on research and teaching needs. The library provides individual and group study spaces, access to Wi-Fi and networked computers and photocopying facilities. In addition, we provide individual and group instruction in the identification, use and evaluation of information resources to enhance teaching and learning.

Open Computer Lab (Student Support)
The Open Computer Center (OCC) is committed to assist students with their course work -- from MS-Office, programming languages, architecture and variety of other software applications taught at NOVA. We also provide assistance with wireless connections for laptops and reset students LAN passwords when needed.
The OCC consists of 12 computer classrooms and labs, housing approximately 340 computers, which include an Open Computer Lab, one Mac “open” (restricted times) lab and one CAD lab. OCC branches are located on the first and 4th floor of the Bisdorf Building (AA) and in the Engineering Building (AE).

The Testing Center and learning labs staff is committed to serving our students, faculty, staff and outreach partners. We strive to provide exceptional customer service.
We proctor Extended Learning Institute (ELI), placements, faculty referred exams and correspondence exams. The Testing Center is a quiet space for students who may require accommodations for testing to include access to the CCTV, JAWS and Zoom text. Staff assist faculty with scheduling classrooms, technical training and instructional support.
The Testing Center provides:
- 27 networked PCs to administer the placement and online exams
- 12 desks for hard-copy exams, 52 additional computers and 30 seats for testing during high traffic periods
- Printers-for printing exam essays
- Scantron machine for grading scantrons with item analysis if needed
- NOVAConnect PC for students to use when finding SIS information

Alexandria’s Information Technology is committed to providing timely technical support to meet our customer’s IT needs. We will treat requests for IT support in the classroom as an “emergency response” because a class is being disrupted. We upgrade campus computers and software annually to provide students, faculty and staff with the latest computer technology. We have recently upgraded the Wi-Fi network with the result of 95% of all areas inside the five building have wireless signals. IT also provides audio visual support in the classrooms and anywhere else it is needed.
IT provides technical support at the campus and at off-campus sites, to include the Alexandria Campus, Arlington Center, Ft. Myer, Henderson Hall, and the Pentagon. There are over 1,800 computers supported by 6 file servers in a high-speed, fast Ethernet LAN environment. The college utilizes Microsoft Windows and Office products as part of the standard suite of office automation complete with Course Technology’s instructional software running in student computer labs for all academic divisions. Additionally, there are just over 200 iMacs in various Mac labs that are used for specialized programs and one open iMac lab for general student usage.
